Ely Consort join forces with the Con Brio Chamber Orchestra to perform Haydn’s Heilig Mass, one of the great settings composed towards the end of his life. Written in the same year as Mass in Time of War, which we preformed in 2016 at Sutton, the music shares the same excitement and grandeur, exploiting the possibilities for choir and orchestra to the full. The first half of the concert features Ola Gjeilo’s exuberant Luminous night of the soul, for eight-part choir, string quartet and piano, Bob Chilcott’s magical re-working of Orlando Gibbons’ Silver Swan, and Lux aeterna, a new choral setting of Nimrod from Elgar’s Enigma Variations.

So, much to enjoy from this exciting concert programme with orchestral accompaniment, which is part of the Isle of Ely Arts Festival!
