Ely ConsortEly Consort - Ely Cathedral Lady Chapel - Nov.29.2008

Ely Consort is a Chamber choir of about 30+ voices. We perform music in a wide variety of styles; our performance venues include Ely Cathedral as well as other local churches. Ely Consort has built up a performing reputation over the last 20 years, to be known as one of the premier Chamber Choirs in East Anglia.  A reputation we very proud of maintaining!

We occasionally have vacancies for experienced singers, and are at present seeking an additional 1st Soprano. Rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings at the King’s School, Ely; if you are interested in singing with Ely Consort, please e-mail elyconsort@hotmail.co.uk with details of your previous choral experience.

Our most recent concert was a very traditional 'Advent & Carol' affair, at St Margaret's, Chippenham.  We had not sung in Chippenham since July 2003, so it was a welcome return, supported by a 100+ audience!  Our guest soloist was old 'local boy' Countertenor, Robert Cross, who's singing perfectly complimented the whole evening.  We'd like to thank everyone involved for their efforts in selling tickets and those providing interval refreshments.  Many thanks to Terry & Isobel for hosting our after concert party!  Please select 'previous concerts' to read our reviews.

If you would like to join the mailing list to be kept up-to-date with details of Ely Consort’s performances, please e-mail elyconsort@hotmail.co.uk with your contact details.

Gabriel Fauré's much loved Requiem forms the centrepiece to this concert of varied choral music performed by Ely Consort, all chosen to suit the sublime acoustics of Ely Cathedral. Two exciting young soloists will join the choir in what promises to be a very special evening.

Ronald  Corp’s Missa San Marco was written for a visit by Highgate Choral Society to St Mark’s Basilica in Venice in 2003, bearing in mind the acoustics of that wonderful building.  It is a simple, modern setting of the mass well suited to the Presbytery in the cathedral.

Tippett’s Five Spirituals were originally written for the oratorio Child of our Time and the composer arranged this unaccompanied version himself.  The setting quickly established itself as a firm favourite in the choral repertoire.
